SUMMARY

This article describes the Microsoft Office Project 2003 and Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 issue that is fixed in the Project 2003 post-Service Pack 2 hotfix package that is dated February 28, 2006.

Important This hotfix package contains a client-side component (Project.msp) and a server-side component (Prjsvr.msp, Secviews.sql, and Websps.sql). The client-side component must be installed on client computers that are running Microsoft Office Professional 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2). The server-side component must be installed on the server that is running Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 Service Pack 2a (SP2a). To resolve the issue that is described in the "Issue that the hotfix package fixes" section, you must install both the client-side component and the server-side component.

Issue that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

The Views Publishing service (Vwnotify.exe) stops responding (hangs) when you publish or save a project to Project Server 2003

When you use Project Professional 2003 to publish or to save a project that contains custom calendar information to Project Server 2003, the Views Publishing service on the server stops responding (hangs). When you open Task Manager, you notice that CPU usage for the VWNotify.exe process increases to and stays at 100 percent.

To restore the functionality of the Vwnotify.exe process, you must either stop and then restart the Vwnotify.exe process, or restart the server.
