SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Windows CE and Microsoft Windows Mobile devices will not correctly reflect the new transition from daylight saving time that occurs on April 2, 2006, in Australia. This problem will cause the time to be 1 hour off from the correct time on the affected systems between March 26, 2006, and April 1, 2006.

CAUSE

The Commonwealth Games are scheduled to occur during March 2006 in Melbourne, Australia. Several Australian states have changed the daylight saving time transition end dates to the first Sunday of April 2006. These states include the following:
New South Wales
Victoria
Australian Capital Territory
South Australia
Tasmania

Daylight saving time for 2006

For 2006 only, the official daylight saving time transition dates for the Australian states that are listed in the "Cause" section have been changed from March 27, 2006, to April 2, 2006.

Note Clocks are turned 1 hour forward at 2 A.M. on the start day to become Summer Time. Clocks are turned 1 hour backward at 3 A.M. on the end day to become Standard Time.

The change to the daylight saving time will affect the transition settings for the following time zone rules:
GMT+10 Sydney
GMT+10 Hobart
GMT+9:30 Adelaide
This problem occurs because of a change in the end dates for daylight saving time by the governments of New South Wales (NSW), Victorian (VIC), Australian Capital Territory (ACT), South Australian (SA), and Tasmanian (TAS). This change was made for the 2006 Commonwealth Games that are scheduled for March, 2006, in Melbourne, Australia. The regular daylight saving time for NSW, VIC, ACT, SA, and TAS is from October to late March. However, because of the 2006 Commonwealth Games, the daylight saving time has been changed to end on April 2, 2006 only for 2006.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, users in the affected time zones, except for Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)/Greenwich Meridian Time (GMT)+9:30 (South Australia), may be able to adjust their clocks to be in a time zone that is GMT+11.

You will have to set the time zone in the clock to the Magadan time zone (GMT+11) between March 27, 2006, and April 2, 2006. If you make this adjustment, the correct time will be displayed.
