This article describes steps you can try if your Xbox 360 console does not turn on.
To troubleshoot this problem, try the following steps:
- Examine the power indicator light that is located in the center of the Ring Of Light on your Xbox 360 console. If there is no power to your console, the indicator light is off and the fans are off.
- Press the power button. The power button and the power indicator light are located in the center of the Ring of Light on the front of your Xbox 360 console. If your Xbox is functioning correctly, the power will turn on.
- Press the eject button on your console disc drive. If your console turns on when you do this but does not start when you use the power button, there may be a problem with the power button. Contact Xbox Customer Support for more help.
- If step 1 does not resolve the problem, examine the power cord where it connects to your console and to the power outlet. Disconnect and then reconnect the power cord at each end to make sure that you firmly connect the cord.

- If this does not resolve the problem, see whether the power cord is plugged in to any device other than a typical power outlet. For example, the power cord may be attached to an extension cord. If this is the case, remove this device and then plug the power supply directly into a power outlet.
- If the problem is not a connection problem, examine the light on the Xbox 360 external power supply.
- A green light indicates that the power supply is functioning correctly. If the light is green, contact Xbox Customer Support for more help.
