When using your Xbox 360 console with an Xbox 360 VGA HD Cable, there is no audio or you see no video on your TV or monitor

This article describes how to troubleshoot typical problems that may occur when you use the Xbox 360 VGA HD AV cable.

SYMPTOMS

When you use the VGA HD cable, you may be able to see a picture, but you cannot hear sound. Or, you may be able to hear sound, but you cannot see a picture.

Picture without sound

To troubleshoot picture without sound issues, follow these steps:
  1. Make sure that you connect the video connectors and the audio connectors to the same input group on the back of the TV.
  2. If you use digital audio, verify the following:
    • Make sure that the audio receiver is turned on.
    • Make sure that the audio output setting in the Xbox Dashboard corresponds to the setting on the TV.
    • Make sure that you connect the console to the digital audio connector on the TV or audio receiver by using an S/PDIF optical connection or a "TosLink" cable.

      Note TosLink cables are sold separately.

Sound without a picture

To troubleshoot sound without picture issues, follow these steps:
  1. Reset the resolution of the console to 640x480. To do this, start the console, hold both triggers, and then press and hold the Y button as the console starts.     If you see a picture on the display after you try this step, you can continue to use the 640x480 resolution, or you can try to use a higher resolution setting. If you still cannot see a picture, continue to the next step.
  2. Disconnect the VGA HD cable from the display, and then remove the console power cord from the power outlet.
  3. Wait five seconds.
  4. Reconnect the console power cord to the power outlet, and then turn on the console.
  5. Reconnect the VGA HD cable to the display. If you can see a picture on the display after you try this step, you can continue to use the 640x480 resolution, or you can try to use a higher resolution setting.
Note Do not take your Xbox 360 console or its accessories to your retailer for repair or service unless an Xbox Customer Support representative instructs you to do this.
