Running a SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Web application under ASP.NET 2.x is not supported. If you try to run a SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Web application under ASP.NET 2.x, you may experience unexpected consequences. More recent versions of the .NET Framework, such as the .NET Framework 2.0, can be installed on the same computer that is running SharePoint Portal Server 2003 SP2. Additionally, other IIS Web applications, such as separate Web applications that are running only Windows SharePoint Services Service Pack 2 (SP2), can be configured to use ASP.NET 2.0. Windows SharePoint Services SP2 includes support for ASP.NET 2.0. Installing the .NET Framework 2.0 or a later version on versions of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 that are earlier than SharePoint Portal Server 2003 SP2 is not supported.
