INTRODUCTION

This article describes event ID 9685. Event ID 9685 is logged when the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service does not successfully register a remote procedure call (RPC) endpoint in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2). When event ID 9685 is logged, Microsoft Outlook clients may lose connectivity to the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service.

When event 9685 is logged, you can use one of the following methods to reregister an RPC endpoint:

Restart the server that is running Exchange Server 2003 SP2.
In an Exchange Server cluster environment, fail over the Exchange Server resources to another node.
