Article ID: 908003 - Last Review: January 15, 2007 - Revision: 3.7 FIX: Office 2003 crashes when you try to close a Word document or an Excel spreadsheet from a WinForm control in a Visual Studio Tools for the Office System version 2003 solutionSYMPTOMSConsider the following scenario. You have a Microsoft Visual
Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System version 2003 solution that
contains a WinForm control. You programmatically close a Microsoft Office Word 2003
document or a Microsoft Office Excel 2003 spreadsheet from the WinForm control. In this scenario, Microsoft Office 2003 crashes. This
behavior occurs after you apply the Update for Office 2003
(KB907417). Note This problem also occurs if you are running the original release version of the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and you have not applied the Update for Office 2003 (KB907417). CAUSEThis problem occurs because of a limitation in the .NET
Framework exception handling for application domains that are unloaded in a
managed Office 2003 solution. Note This problem only affects Visual Studio Tools for the Office System version 2003 solutions. Non-Visual Studio 2003 Tools for the Office System managed solutions are not affected by this problem because application domains are not unloaded when the document or the spreadsheet is closed. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, we recommend that you do not use
code that closes an Office document or spreadsheet from a WinForm control in a Visual Studio Tools for the Office System version
2003 solution. STATUSMicrosoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
in the "Applies to" section. MORE INFORMATIONFor more information about Visual Studio Tools for the
