INTRODUCTION

This article describes the Microsoft Office XP issue that is fixed in the Office XP post-Service Pack 3 hotfix package that is dated October 5, 2005.

Issue that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • When you try to perform one of the following actions in an Office XP program, the Office XP program may temporarily stop responding:
    • Open a document
    • Save a document
    • Insert an object into a document
    Additionally, you receive an error message that is similar to the following error message:
    Microsoft Office Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

    When you view the data in the error report, the report contains an error signature that is similar to one of the following error signatures:

    Additionally, other program versions, module versions, and offsets are possible.

    This problem occurs if all the following conditions are true:
    • The My Documents folder and the Desktop folder have been redirected to a network location.
    • The network share is offline.
    • You use an Office XP dialog box that displays a window that contains folders and files.
