INTRODUCTION

You can play some original Xbox games on your Xbox 360 console if you have an Xbox 360 Hard Drive and the updated console software.

SYMPTOMS

When you try to play an original Xbox game on your Xbox 360 console, you receive the following error message:

THINGS TO TRY

Try the following steps to resolve this issue:
  1. Examine the disc for physical defects, smudges, or scratches.
  2. Clean the disc, and then try again.
    • Hold the disc by the edges without touching the surface with your fingers.
    • Clean the disc by using a soft, clean cloth, lightly wiping from the center outwards.
    • Do not use solvents or chemicals to clean the disc.
  3. Update your console software. Information on how to do this is available at:
    support.xbox.com/pages/xbox-360/how-to/update-xbox-360/system-updates.aspx (http://support.xbox.com/pages/xbox-360/how-to/update-xbox-360/system-updates.aspx)
  4. If you have an original Xbox console, try to play the game on the original Xbox console.
If these steps do not fix the problem, the game might not be supported on the Xbox 360 console. Not all original Xbox games play on the Xbox 360 console.
