BUG: SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services performance monitor counters do not report values

The following Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services performance monitor counters do not report values when you select them in the System Monitor:

• Connection:Successes/sec
• Storage Engine Query:Total queries from file
• Proc Indexes:Rows/sec
• Storage Engine Query:Avg Time/Query
• Storage Engine Query:Total queries from cache direct and Storage Engine Query:Total queries from cache filtered

Although these counters still appear in SQL Server Performance Monitor, these counters always return the value zero.

Note This behavior may also occur with other performance monitor counters.

Use the following methods to obtain the information that was previously provided by the affected counters:

• Monitor connection activity through the Audit Login trace event in SQL Profiler.
• Monitor the Analysis Services query log. This log file tracks all queries that are answered from a file.
• Monitor indexing activity by using the EventSubclass 20 column of the Progress Report EventClass event class in SQL Profiler.
• Track query times in the Duration column of the Query End EventClass event class when you use SQL Profiler.
• Distinguish cached data requests from non-cached data requests by looking at the value of the EventSubclass column for the following event classes in the SQL Profiler trace log:
  • Query Subcube
  • Query Subcube Verbose
  • Query Dimension

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
