INTRODUCTION

This article contains support information about defining the local address of a Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 content index to be on a System Area Network (SAN) device. This configuration is a supported configuration.

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft has verified that defining the local address of a SharePoint Portal Server 2003 or SharePoint Server 2007 content index to be on a System Area Network (SAN) device is a supported configuration. SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and SharePoint Server 2007 function the same whether the indexes are on a physical drive or on a SAN device. Storing the indexes on a SAN drive provides the same level of reliability as using the SAN drive itself.

Microsoft does not support storing the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 or SharePoint Server 2007 indexes on a network-attached storage device.
