FIX: You experience various problems on the Windows CE 3.0-based device when the tick count gets close to or exceeds the MAX_DWORD value of 4294967295 (0xFFFFFFFF)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Windows CE 3.0, when the tick count gets close to or exceeds the MAX_DWORD value of 4294967295 (0xFFFFFFFF), the Ethernet debug component begins to repeatedly transmit network frame data. When this occurs, the Microsoft Windows CE 3.0-based device stops responding, and the network connection of the Windows CE 3.0-based device to ESHELL is lost.

Note The tick count typically gets close to or exceeds the MAX_DWORD value of 4294967295 (0xFFFFFFFF) after approximately 49.7 days of continuous operation.

CAUSE

These problems can occur when either ESHELL or the Windows CE Platform Builder 3.0 IDE is connected to the Windows CE 3.0-based device through an Ethernet connection.

RESOLUTION

Software update information

A supported software update is now available from Microsoft as Windows CE 3.0 Core OS QFE 909012. To resolve this problem immediately, click the following article number for information about obtaining Windows CE Platform Builder and core operating system software updates:

Prerequisites

This software update is supported only if all previously issued updates for this product have also been installed.

Restart requirement

After you install this software update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform. To clean the platform, click Clean on the Build menu. To build the platform, click Build Platform on the Build menu.

You do not have to restart your computer after you apply this update.
