In Windows XP, you can use the Power Meter feature to monitor and manage a portable computer’s battery. You can monitor and manage the computer’s battery only on Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI)-enabled computers and on Advanced Power Management (APM)-enabled computers. By default, the Power Meter icon appears on the taskbar whenever the computer is operating on battery power. You can configure the computer so that the Power Meter icon appears on the taskbar at all times. This icon gives you direct access to the Power Meter feature and direct access to the Power Options tool in Control Panel. Additionally, you can select the current power scheme.
