System requirements for Windows Live OneCare

Your computer must meet the following minimum requirements for successful installation of Windows Live OneCare.

Note If you are not sure how to find this information, start the installation process anyway. During Setup, Windows Live OneCare will examine the system automatically.
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2 (SP2), Windows XP Professional with SP2, Windows XP Media Center Edition with SP2, or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition with SP2. Or Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, and Ultimate editions.

Important: Even though one can install Windows Live OneCare version 1.5 onto Windows Vista Enterprise, we do not support Windows Live OneCare on Windows Vista Enterprise. We recommend that customers running Windows Vista Enterprise use Microsoft Forefront products instead.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or later versions for Windows XP SP2, OneCare Phishing Filter support requires Internet Explorer 7.
A CPU clock speed of 300 megahertz (MHz) or faster for Windows XP SP2. 800mhz or higher required for use on Microsoft Windows Vista.
Recommended 256 megabytes (MB) of random access memory (RAM) for Windows XP SP2, Recommended 512 megabytes (MB) of random access memory (RAM) for Windows Vista.
600 MB of available hard disk space on the system partition
An Internet connection that is 56 kilobits per second (Kbps) or faster

Note We recommend that you have a broadband connection.

Windows Live ID account (formerly .Net Passport)
Readable CD / DVD ROM Drive for installations using the Windows Live OneCare CD (not required when performing the installation from the Windows Live OneCare website).
A recordable CD drive, a recordable DVD drive, supported USB device, local network location or an external hard disk

Note This above mentioned device is required for the backup and restore functionality. It is not required for installing Windows Live OneCare.
Note To install Windows Live OneCare the computer must be connected to the Internet.

Antivirus and firewall program requirements for Windows Live OneCare

We do not recommend that you install one antivirus or firewall program over another on the same computer. Installing one antivirus or firewall program over another may cause problems.

If you install Windows Live OneCare when other antivirus or firewall programs are also installed on the computer, the computer may run more slowly or Windows Live OneCare may not run or experience unexpected problems.

During Setup, Windows Live OneCare checks for the programs that are in this list. If it finds one of these programs, Windows Live OneCare notifies you that you must remove the program. To avoid any potential problems, we recommend that you remove all antivirus and firewall software, except for Windows Firewall, before you install Windows Live OneCare.

Note Windows Firewall is part of the Windows XP operating system and cannot be removed.

Permissions requirements for Windows Live OneCare

To install Windows Live OneCare , you must first log on to the computer by using an account that has administrative permissions. To determine the permissions for your account, follow these steps:
1.Click Start, click Run, type nusrmgr.cpl, and then click OK.
2.Click the Users tab.

The Group column shows the permissions for your account.
