BUG: You cannot repair or uninstall SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services after you uninstall and then reinstall Internet Information Services 6.0

SYMPTOMS

You install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services, and then you uninstall Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0. After you reinstall IIS 6.0 and you try to uninstall SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services, you may receive the following error message:
The setup failed to read IIsMimeMap table. The error code is -2147024893.
Additionally, you cannot repair the SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services installation by using the following command:
msiexec /fav SqlRun_RS.msi

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the uninstall program cannot run correctly if the virtual directories for SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services are not present.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, re-create the virtual directories for SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services by using the Reporting Services Configuration tool. After you re-create the virtual directories, you can uninstall or repair the installation of SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services successfully.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
