Article ID: 910805 - Last Review: October 27, 2006 - Revision: 1.1 Summary record (.sum) files are not deleted from a child primary site that is not the central site in Systems Management Server 2003SYMPTOMSYou may notice that a backlog of summary record (.sum) files are not deleted in the \sms\inboxes\swmproc.box folder of a child primary site that is running Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003 if the following conditions are true:
CAUSEThis problem occurs because the .sum files are not deleted as expected when the maximum number of retries has been reached. The software metering processor will try again to process a summary record (.sum) file for a client that no longer exists a certain number of times. As soon as the retry limit is reached, the .sum file is forwarded to the parent primary site. If the child site is not the central site, the file is not deleted from the \sms\inboxes\swmproc.box folder as expected. WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, manually delete the old .sum files in the \sms\inboxes\swmproc.box folder on the child primary site. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. MORE INFORMATIONIf the software metering processor cannot process a summary record (.sum) file for a client that no longer exists, you will see the following log entry in the Swmproc.log file:
