CAUSEThis issue may occur if your Xbox 360 console is not set to allow both the Xbox 360 remote and the Windows Media Center Remote to control your Xbox 360 console. THINGS TO TRYYou can configure your Xbox 360 console to use the Windows Media Center Remote. This lets you use the familiar remote features for Windows Media Center to control the Windows Media Center features on your Xbox 360.
To use a Windows Media Center Remote with your Xbox 360, follow these steps:
MORE INFORMATIONIf your Xbox 360 console is turned off, press Start to turn on your Xbox 360 console and to start Windows Media Center. If you are in the Xbox Dashboard, press Start from any location to jump straight to Windows Media Center. You cannot program the volume control of the Windows Media Center Remote to control the volume of your Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 is similar to the CD player in that the audio controls are at a fixed volume level and cannot be adjusted.
