CAUSE

This error can occur if the credit card you are using is listed as the payment option for 10 Xbox LIVE accounts.

Things To Try

Solution 1: Use a different credit card for other accounts

You can use different credit cards to sign up for Xbox LIVE memberships for different accounts. You can pay for a membership from either an Xbox 360 console or a computer.

To add or edit payment options from an Xbox 360 console
  1. Sign into the Xbox LIVE Account you want to change the payment option on.
  2. Go to the Settings hub and select Account.
  3. Select the membership that you want to change.
  4. Select Change Payment Options.
  5. Select Add Credit Card, or select an existing credit card, and then select Edit Payment Options.
  6. Enter your new credit card information, or edit the existing information.

To add or edit payment options from a computer
  1. Go to xbox.com/accounts (http://www.xbox.com/accounts) , and sign in with your Windows Live ID.
  2. In Account Information, click Edit Payment Options.
  3. Click Add a new Credit Card.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

Solution 2: Remove the credit card from existing Xbox LIVE accounts

If you do not want to use a different credit card or a prepaid card, you can remove a credit card from one or more of your existing Xbox LIVE accounts. Removing a card from an account will allow you to add the card to another one.

Note You can remove a credit card from your account ONLY from a computer.

To remove a credit card from your account from a computer
  1. Go to the xbox.com/accounts (http://xbox.com/accounts) , and sign in with your Windows Live ID.
  2. Select Edit Payment Options.
  3. Find the payment option that you want to remove, and click Remove.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

This payment option will no longer appear on your console or on your account on Xbox.com. For historical reference, however, the payment option will remain visible with a ”Removed” status on the Microsoft Billing and Account Management (http://billing.microsoft.com) webpage.

Note You cannot remove a credit card from an account with an active Xbox LIVE Gold Membership. If you try to remove the credit card from the Xbox LIVE account, you will see the following error:
This payment option cannot be removed at this time. Please contact Xbox LIVE Customer Support.

Before you can remove this credit card, you need to switch your Xbox LIVE Gold Membership to a new payment option. After you switch to a new payment option, you can remove the previous credit card.
