SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft ActiveSync 4.0 and in Microsoft ActiveSync 4.1, you may not be able to establish a universal serial bus (USB) connection to a Microsoft Windows Mobile-based device. You may experience this problem after you successfully connect and create a partnership, disconnect, and then try to reconnect.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, disconnect the Windows Mobile-based device. Then, reconnect the Windows Mobile-based device.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. In ActiveSync, establish a USB connection to the Windows Mobile-based device.
  2. In ActiveSync, click to clear Allow USB connections.

    The USB connection is broken.
  3. In ActiveSync, click to select Allow USB connections.

You expect the USB connection to be established automatically. However, the USB connection is not established.
Note These steps must be performed when the Windows Mobile-based device is still connected to the host desktop computer.
