SUMMARY

This article describes the Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 issue that is fixed in the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 post-Service Pack 2 hotfix package that is dated November 30, 2005.

INTRODUCTION

Issue that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • When a server that is running SharePoint Portal Server 2003 tries to perform Index propagation, propagation does not occur. Additionally, the following event is logged in the event log:

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: Microsoft SharePointPS Search Service
    Event Category: Services
    Event ID:?
    Date: date
    Time: time
    User: N/A
    Computer: computer_name
    Description: Index propagation to search server <computer_name (IP address)> was not accepted.
    Context: http://URL, SPS02Portal_CI Catalog
    Details: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. (0x80070020)

    Note This hotfix does not resolve this issue. This hotfix adds a tracing functionality that a CSS engineer can use to troubleshoot the issue. The customer will have to call and ask the CSS engineer to send the Tcontrol.exe tracing tool to turn on the tracing functionality. This tool is located in the PKM tools package.
