Multiple files are created when you copy a file that has NTFS alternate data streams to a NFS shared folder

When you copy a file that has alternate data streams to a Network File System (NFS) shared folder by using Microsoft Client for NFS, the NFS file system creates multiple files, one file for every stream. For example, the WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe file has alternate data streams. If you copy the WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe file to a NFS shared folder by using Microsoft Client for NFS, you will see the following two files:

• WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe
• WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe:Zone.Identifier:$DATA

This behavior occurs because the NFS protocol does not support NTFS alternate data streams. Therefore, the NFS file system cannot preserve the alternate data streams information.
