After you enable an SIP account, the SIP account cannot log on to a Live Communications Server 2005 server

SYMPTOMS

After you enable a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) account, the SIP account cannot log on to a Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 server. Additionally, the SIP user may receive the following error message:
Signing in to SIP Communications Service failed because the password is incorrect or the sign-in name does not exist
This behavior occurs even if the SIP account is enabled on the Live Communications Server 2005 server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type dcomcnfg, and then click OK.
  2. Expand Component Services, expand Computers, expand My Computer, expand DCOM Config, and then expand RTC Store Access Interface Class.
  3. Right-click RTC Store Access Interface Class, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Security tab.
  5. Under Access Permissions, click Edit.
  6. Add the following groups to the Group and user names list:
    • RTC Local Administrators
    • RTC Local User Administrators
    • RTC Server Local Group
  7. Restart the Live Communications Server service.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
