FIX: An access violation may occur when you declare a global type recordset variable and you try to close the recordset in Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 Service Pack 1

When you use a Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects (ADO)-based application that uses Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 Service Pack 1 (SP1), an access violation may occur. This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:

• You declare a global type recordset variable.
• You try to close the recordset.
• You use Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. To apply this hotfix, you must have MDAC 2.8 SP1 installed on the computer.
