Connection to the Sony Media Changer/Recorder is lost in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

When you use a Sony Media Changer/Recorder device in Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, you may experience one or more of the following problems:

• The Manage Discs button is missing from My DVDs.
• The Sony Media Changer/Recorder device is not available in Media Center.
• Media Center stops responding (hangs).
• The computer stops responding (hangs).

These problems may occur if either of the following events occurs when Media Center is running:

• An IEEE 1394 device is connected to the computer or is disconnected from the computer.
• You put the computer on standby or in hibernation, and then resume the computer.

The IEEE 1394 bus is reset when either of these events occurs. The problem occurs because when the IEEE 1394 bus is reset, the connection (Login\Reconnect) to the changer fails. Therefore, Media Center loses contact with the Media Changer/Recorder.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
