Error message when you try to install Live Communications Server 2005 Archiving Service on a computer that is running Live Communications Server 2005 Service Pack 1: "Error 1722"
You must remove all previously installed hotfixes for Live
Communications Server 2005 SP1 before you install this
update.
This update cannot be uninstalled. To remove the update,
you must remove Live Communications Server 2005 and then reinstall Live
Communications Server 2005 from your original Live Communications Server 2005
CD. For more information about how to remove Live Communications Server 2005,
see the "Removal information" section.
We recommend that you back up your database before you
install this update. This will enable you to restore back to the last working state of the database in the unlikely event that the update fails to install. Then, back up your database again after you install this
update.
Do not restore any backups that you made before you
installed this update. If you restore these backups, you will effectively
remove the update from the back-end database only. This leaves the front-end
servers unable to connect until the update is reinstalled on the back-end
servers.
You must have administrative permissions to Live
Communications Server and to the back-end server that is running SQL Server to
install this update.
If the back-end server that is running SQL Server is hosted
on a server that is running Windows 2000 Server, you must install Windows
Script Host (WSH) version 5.7 on the back-end server before you try to install
the update. To download WSH version 5.7, visit the following Microsoft Web
sites:
You have to apply this update only on the active node of the SQL Server (active/passive) cluster.
We recommend that you install this update in the following
order:
Perimeter network servers Install the update on the Access Proxy server first. Then,
install the update on the branch office proxy servers and the directory
servers.
Internal servers Install the update on the back-end server that is running
Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 Enterprise Edition first.
Then, install the update on the front-end server that is running Live
Communications Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, the server that is running
Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 Standard Edition, and the
address book server.
Administrative tools server Install this update on the server that is running the
administrative tools last.
Non-Enterprise Editions of Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005
Install this update on any of the following servers that are running Live Communications Server 2005:
Standard Edition Server
Director (Standard Edition)
Proxy
Access Proxy
Address Book Server
Administration Tools
To install this update, run the following file:
LCS2005-KB911996-x86-Usa.msi
Enterprise Edition of Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005
Install this update on any of the following servers that are running Live Communications Server 2005:
Enterprise Edition (Front-end)
Enterprise Edition (Back-end)
Director (Enterprise Edition) Front-end
Director (Enterprise Edition) Back-end
Note If you have moved the database from a server that is running Live Communications Server 2005 SP1 that had update 911996 installed to a new server that is running Live Communications Server 2005 SP1 Enterprise Edition (Back-end), you must reapply update 911996 to the new server. To do this, follow
these steps:
Stop all front-end servers that are running Live
Communications Server 2005 Enterprise Edition by using one of the following
methods:
At a command prompt, type net stop
rtcsrv, and then press ENTER.
Start the Live Communications Server 2005
administrative MMC snap-in, right-click the front-end server name, and then
click Stop.
In Services (Services.msc), right-click
Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005, and then
click Stop.
In Computer Management (Compmgmt.msc), expand
Services and Applications, click Services,
right-click Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005,
and then click Stop.
On the back-end (SQL) servers that are hosting the RTC and RTCCONFIG databases for Live Communications Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, run the following command:
LCS2005-KB911996-x86-Usa.msi POOLNAME=poolname
On the front-end servers that are running Live
Communications Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, run the following command:
LCS2005-KB911996-x86-Usa.msi
Note If you run the LCS2005-KB911996-x86-Usa.msi
update on the front-end servers before you install the update on the back-end
servers, the front-end servers will not be able to start. Additionally, the
following error messages will be logged in the event log:
Event ID: 30968 Source: Live
Communications User Services Details: The component Live Communications
User Services reported a critical error: code C3EE78F8 (Enterprise Edition
Server successfully registered with the back-end, but a stored procedure version
mismatch was detected. The service will not start until this problem is
resolved.)
To resolve this issue, make sure that you use the same
installation package for the front-end servers and the back-end
servers.
Event ID: 12299 Source: Live
Communications Server Details: The service is shutting down due to an
internal error. Error Code: 0xC3EE78F8.
To resolve this issue,
examine the previous event log entries, and then resolve the issues. Then,
restart the server. If the issue persists, contact Microsoft Product Support
Services.
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
On the back-end servers that are running Live
Communications Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, run the following command:
LCS2005-KB911996-x86-Usa.msi POOLNAME=poolname
Start the front-end servers that are running Live
Communications Server 2005 Enterprise Edition by using one of the following
methods:
At a command prompt, type net start
rtcsrv, and then press ENTER.
Start the Live Communications Server 2005
administrative MMC snap-in, right-click the front-end server name, and then
click Start.
In Services (Services.msc), right-click
Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005, and then
click Start.
In Computer Management (Compmgmt.msc), expand
Services and Applications, click Services,
right-click Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005,
and then click Start.
