When you save a document in Microsoft Office Word 2003 or in Microsoft Word 2002, the file is given the following name:
~XXXX.temp.docNote XXXX is a sequence of characters and numbers that is generated by Word to name temporary files. The number of characters and numbers may vary. For example, you may be prompted to save the file as ~WRC003.tmp.doc.

By default, the Make local copy of files stored on network or removable drives and Save AutoRecover info every N minutes options are configured to save the user's files to the Application Data folder. When this folder is redirected, the files are given a temp.doc name.
