Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Intelligent Message Filter does not provide the functionality to exclude a particular recipient from anti-spam filtering.

Hotfix information

After you apply this hotfix, you can exclude particular recipient(s) from Intelligent Message Filter filtering. See the More Information section for information about how to enable the hotfix. A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

After you apply this hotfix, you can configure Intelligent Message Filter to filter e-mail by using either an exclusive list or an inclusive list.

Exclusive list

When you use an exclusive list, e-mail bypasses Intelligent Message Filter if all the recipients in an e-mail message are on the list. Otherwise, e-mail is filtered as expected.

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then press ENTER.
2. Locate the following registry subkey:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\
3. If the ContentFilter subkey is not present, point to New, click Key, type ContentFilter, and then press ENTER.
   
   If the ContentFilter subkey is present, go to step 4.
4. Right-click ContentFilter.
5. Point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
6. Type CheckRecipients to name the new value, and then press ENTER.
7. Right-click CheckRecipients, click Modify, type 2 in the Value data box, and then press ENTER.
8. Right-click the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\ContentFilter subkey, point to New, and then click Multi-String Value.
9. Type RecipList to name the new value, and then press ENTER.
10. Right-click RecipList, click Modify, type the SMTP addresses that you want to exclude from Intelligent Message Filter filtering in the Value data box, and then press ENTER.
11. Exit Registry Editor

Inclusive list

When you use an inclusive list, e-mail is scanned by Intelligent Message Filter filtering if any of the recipients in an e-mail message are on the list. Otherwise, e-mail bypasses Intelligent Message Filter filtering.

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then press ENTER.
2. Locate and right-click the following registry subkey:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\ContentFilter
3. Point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4. Type CheckRecipients to name the new value, and then press ENTER.
5. Right-click CheckRecipients, click Modify, type 1 in the Value data box, and then press ENTER.
6. Right-click the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\ContentFilter subkey, point to New, and then click Multi-String Value.
7. Type RecipList to name the new value, and then press ENTER.
8. Right-click RecipList, click Modify, type the SMTP addresses that you want to be scanned by Intelligent Message Filter filtering in the Value data box, and then press ENTER.
9. Exit Registry Editor

Note If the CheckRecipients registry key is set to 0 (zero), the Intelligent Message Filter filtering functionality is turned off.
