SUMMARY

This article lists the Microsoft COM+ bugs that are fixed in Microsoft Windows 2000 Post-Service Pack 4 (SP4) COM+ 1.0 Hotfix Rollup Package 36. Each hotfix rollup package contains all the fixes that were released in the previous Windows 2000 COM+ 1.0 hotfix rollup packages.

Issues that are fixed in this hotfix rollup package

The following issues are fixed in this hotfix rollup package. These issues were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) does not correctly decrement the total log space that is used when an error occurs because a duplicate transaction is exported.
  • An event is logged when Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) intrinsics are not marshaled correctly.
  • A race condition causes MS DTC to close unexpectedly, and the following event is logged:

The MS DTC Transaction Manager is in an inconsistent state and cannot proceed. Please contact Microsoft Product Support. (null)

    File: .\tmtx.cpp, Line: 2570.

    Version: 03.00.00.3529

This problem occurs after you install the cumulative security update that is referenced in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
902400  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902400/ ) MS05-051: Vulnerabilities in MS DTC and COM+ could allow remote code execution
  • New MS DTC transactions are blocked because of a code defect in the Mtxoci.dll file. The code defect in the Mtxoci.dll file causes service threads not to be terminated correctly when a database is disconnected.
  • A code defect in the Comsvcs.dll file causes the Queued Components application to stop responding. Additionally, event ID 4097 is logged.

This problem occurs after you install the cumulative security update that is referenced in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
902400  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902400/ ) MS05-051: Vulnerabilities in MS DTC and COM+ could allow remote code execution
  • Code defects in data unmarshaling paths may cause failfast issues and memory leak issues.
  • A code defect in the Msdtctm.dll file causes a null pointer to be referenced incorrectly.
