Consider the following scenario. You are running a Windows XP-based computer. You apply hotfix 908673 to this computer. (Hotfix 908673 is a USB-related hotfix.) Then, you put the computer into either hibernation or standby.
However, after you resume the computer from hibernation or from standby, the hotfix no longer works. Specifically, the USB-related problem that was resolved by hotfix 908673 occurs again after you resume the computer from hibernation or from standby.
This problem occurs because of a bug in the Usbport driver. Therefore, the registry changes that are applied by hotfix 908673 are not retained after the computer is resumed from hibernation or from standby.
Hotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
