SYMPTOMS

When you run an attributed Active Template Library (ATL)-based COM server, the server unexpectedly exits (crashes) in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. This behavior occurs when all the following conditions are true:
  • You are using an ATL simple object that has a dual interface.
  • The ATL simple object contains a method or a property that returns an HRESULT error value.
This problem occurs in release builds and in debug builds.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of a bug in the Atlevent.h file where the AtlExcepInfoFromErrorInfo function accesses a null pointer.
