How to modify the "Save Settings on Exit" option in Microsoft Dynamics SL

INTRODUCTION

The Save Settings on Exit option appears on the Application Options menu in Microsoft Dynamics SL. This article describes how to do the following:
  • Turn this option on
  • Turn this option off
  • Add this option to the menu
  • Remove this option from the menu

The Save Settings on Exit option in Microsoft Dynamics SL automatically saves changes to a screen's appearance when a user closes the screen. You can remove this option from a particular user or from all users.

By default in Microsoft Dynamics SL 6.5 and in earlier versions, the Save Settings on Exit option appears on the Application Options menu. By default in Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 and later versions, the Save Settings on Exit option does not appear on the Application Options menu.

How to turn on the "Save Settings on Exit" option

Each user must turn on the Save Settings on Exit option if the user wants to use this functionality. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Microsoft Dynamics SL, and then log on as the appropriate user.
  2. On the Application Options menu, click Save Settings on Exit. Verify that the option is selected.
  3. On the Application Options menu, click Options Save.
  4. Close Microsoft Dynamics SL.

How to turn off the "Save Settings on Exit" option

Each user must turn off the Save Settings on Exit option if the user does not want to use this functionality. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Microsoft Dynamics SL, and then log on as the appropriate user.
  2. On the Application Options menu, click Save Settings on Exit. Verify that the option is no longer selected.

    Note This procedure does not remove customizations that were saved previously by using the Save Settings on Exit option.
  3. On the Application Options menu, click Options Save.
  4. Close Microsoft Dynamics SL.

How to add the "Save Settings on Exit" option to the menu

For a single user

  1. Locate the Solomon.ini file.
  2. Right-click the Solomon.ini file, and then click Open With. The Open With dialog box opens.
  3. Click Notepad, and then click OK. The Solomon.ini file opens in Notepad.
  4. Type the following entry after the Company section:
    [Miscellaneous]
    SaveSettingOnExit=Yes
    Note Do not add an "s" after "SaveSetting" even though the option on the Microsoft Dynamics SL menu is Save Settings On Exit.
  5. Click Save, and then close the Solomon.ini file.

For all users

  1. Locate the Solomon.ini file.
  2. Right-click the Solomon.ini file, and then click Open With. The Open With dialog box opens.
  3. Click Notepad, and then click OK. The Solomon.ini file opens in Notepad.
  4. Type the following entry after the Company section:
    [Miscellaneous]
    SaveSettingOnExit=Yes
    Note Do not add an "s" after "SaveSetting" even though the option on the Microsoft Dynamics SL menu is Save Settings On Exit.
  5. Click Save, and then close the Solomon.ini file.

How to remove the "Save Settings on Exit" option from the menu

For a single user

  1. Locate the Solomon.ini file. By default, this file is located in the following folder on each user's workstation:
    • In Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 and later versions: Drive:\Document and Settings\<user profile>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft Dynamics SL or Drive:\Document and Settings\<user profile>\Application Data\Microsoft Dynamics SL
    • In Microsoft Dynamics SL 6.5 and in earlier versions: Drive:\Windows\ or System drive:\WINNT\
  2. Right-click the Solomon.ini file, and then click Open With. The Open With dialog box opens.
  3. Click Notepad, and then click OK. The Solomon.ini file opens in Notepad.
  4. Remove the following entry in the Miscellaneous section:
    SaveSettingOnExit=No
  5. Click Save, and then close the Solomon.ini file.

For all users

  1. Locate the Solomon.ini file. By default, this file is located in the following folder on the server:
    • In Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 and later versions: Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\SL\Applications
    • In Microsoft Dynamics SL 6.5 and in earlier versions: Program Files\Solomon
  2. Right-click the Solomon.ini file, and then click Open With. The Open With dialog box opens.
  3. Click Notepad, and then click OK. The Solomon.ini file opens in Notepad.
  4. Remove the following entry in the Miscellaneous section:
    SaveSettingOnExit=No
  5. Click Save, and then close the Solomon.ini file.
