Error message when you try to remove a password from a compressed folder or add a password to a compressed folder on a Windows XP-based computer: "Compressed (Zipped) Folders Error"Article ID: 915389 - View products that this article applies to. On This PageSYMPTOMSYou use a compressed (zipped) folder on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer. When you try to remove a password from the compressed folder or add a password to the compressed folder, you receive the following error message: Compressed (Zipped) Folders Error Cannot create output file CAUSEThis problem occurs because of a sharing violation error. The Windows shell creates a thread for the shell folder view. The thread reads the properties of compressed files. The thread opens compressed files that have the read permission but do not have the write permission. However, when you try to remove a password from a compressed folder or add a password to a compressed folder, you must have the write permission. Therefore, the sharing violation error occurs. Note In this scenario, the sharing violation error occurs because of a timing issue. RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft.
