Internet Explorer may close immediately after you start it on a Windows XP-based computer

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Internet Explorer may close immediately after you start it on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer that is running Microsoft Office 2003. In this case, no error messages are displayed.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the Discuss toolbar is enabled in Internet Explorer. The Owsclt.dll file adds the Discuss toolbar to Internet Explorer. The Owsclt.dll file is a COM component that is installed on the computer when Office 2003 is installed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install Office 2003 Service Pack 3.
