SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services or SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services to generate HTML reports in Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005, some reports may generate an error message that is similar to the following:
There is an error in XML document (line, position). ' ', hexadecimal value 0x01, is an invalid character. Line, position position.
This symptom only occurs if the report uses one of the following columns as a parameter:
  • SC_ComputerDimension_View
    Computer Name
    Domain Name
  • SC_CounterDetailDimension_View
    Object Name
    Instance Name
    Counter Name

CAUSE

This problem occurs because a nonprintable character is populated into a user-defined parameter in the report.
