A connected USB floppy disk drive does not work when you press F6 to install mass storage drivers during the Windows XP installation process

Consider the following scenario. You start to install Microsoft Windows XP on a computer to which a universal serial bus (USB) floppy disk drive is connected. Then, you press F6 to install mass storage drivers during the Windows XP installation process.

Note These mass storage drivers reside on a floppy disk that is inserted in the USB floppy disk drive.

In this scenario, the USB floppy disk drive does not work. Therefore, you cannot load the mass storage drivers.

This issue occurs if the USB floppy disk drive is not supported for use during Windows XP installation. To be supported in this situation, the drive must be listed in the Txtsetup.sif file.

The following USB floppy disk drives are included in the Txtsetup.sif file and are therefore supported for use during Windows XP installation: The following USB floppy disk drives are not included in the Txtsetup.sif file and therefore are not supported during Windows XP installation:

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:

• Use one of the supported USB floppy disk drives from the list in the "Cause" section.
• In a corporate environment that uses Microsoft Windows Remote Installation Service (RIS) Server technology to deploy Windows XP images, you can use the procedure in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article to add the additional mass storage drivers:
