FIX: You cannot install OLE DB Provider for DB2 1.0 on a computer that has only the SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio component installed

You cannot install Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2 version 1.0 that is included in the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Feature Pack on a computer that has only the SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio component installed.

When this problem occurs, you receive the following message from the OLE DB Provider for DB2 Installation Wizard:

When SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio is the only SQL Server 2005 component that is installed on the computer, the Setup program (Setup.exe) for OLE DB Provider for DB2 1.0 cannot determine whether a supported version of SQL Server 2005 is installed.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.

After you obtain the hotfix, follow these steps to apply the hotfix:

1. After you downloaded the installation package for OLE DB Provider for DB2 from the SQL Server 2005 Feature Pack download site, the installation files were extracted to a folder. In the folder to which the OLE DB Provider for DB2 installation files were extracted, locate the MSI folder. For example, the path of the MSI folder may be the following:
   C:\OLEDBProvider\MSI
2. Copy the updated SetupHookDB2.dll file to the MSI folder. Click Yes when you are prompted to replace the existing file.
3. In the folder to which the installation files were extracted, run the Setup program (Setup.exe) to install OLE DB Provider for DB2 1.0.

File information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.Note Because of file dependencies, the most recent hotfix that contains these files may contain additional files.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

This hotfix updates the Setup program for OLE DB Provider for DB2 1.0. The update enables the Setup process to continue when SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio is the only SQL Server 2005 component that is installed on the system.
