SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You use the Software Update Removal Wizard (Spuninst.exe) to remove software updates. You try to remove any one of the following Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) software updates by using Spuinst.exe and the /passive switch:
  • MDAC253-KB911562-x86-<LANG>.exe
  • MDAC271-KB911562-x86-<LANG>.exe
  • MDAC28-KB911562-x86-<LANG>.exe
  • MDAC282-KB911562-x86-<LANG>.exe
Note In this list, <LANG> is a placeholder for the language.

In this scenario, you are prompted to continue the software removal process, even though the /passive switch should not require user interaction.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the /quiet switch instead of the /passive switch. The installation will be silent, and any required reboots will occur automatically.
