A renamed notebook does not retain its name, or the folder for the notebook is not renamed in OneNote 2007

SYMPTOMS

When you rename a notebook in Microsoft Office OneNote 2007, you experience one or more of the following symptoms:
  • The folder for the notebook is not renamed.
  • The tooltip for the notebook displays the original folder name in the file path.
  • You close the notebook but do not exit OneNote 2007. When you reopen the notebook, the display name of the notebook reverts to the original name of the notebook. Additionally, the tooltip for the notebook displays the original folder name of the notebook.

CAUSE

When you rename a notebook in OneNote 2007, only the display name of the notebook is changed. The folder path where the notebook is stored is not changed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, rename the folder for the notebook. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Close the notebook, and then exit OneNote 2007.
  2. In Windows Explorer, rename the folder for the notebook.

    Note By default, the folder for the notebook is in the following location:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\OneNote Notebooks
  3. Start OneNote 2007.
  4. On the File menu, click Open Notebook.
  5. Locate the folder that contains your OneNote 2007 notebooks, such as the folder that is mentioned in step 2.
  6. Click the renamed notebook folder, and then click Open.
