INTRODUCTION

This article describes Groove communications and Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) port 2492.

MORE INFORMATION

Groove's native Simple Symmetrical Transfer Protocol (SSTP) uses port 2492 for direct connections. The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) assigned this port to Groove. If Groove cannot communicate over TCP port 2492, Groove encapsulates SSTP in less efficient transports that are more generally available. These transports are as follows:
  • Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) over port 443
  • HTTP over port 80
Note This information also applies to Groove workspaces and Shared Folders in Microsoft Office SharePoint Workspace 2010.
