Article ID: 917173 - Last Review: February 14, 2007 - Revision: 2.0 Groove cannot communicate off the local subnet on some computers that use a cellular wireless Internet connectionSYMPTOMSMicrosoft Office Groove 2007 and earlier versions of Groove cannot
communicate off the local subnet on some computers that use a cellular wireless Internet connection. CAUSEThis issue occurs because a helper application for some
cellular wireless Internet connections prevents Groove from
communicating with the Groove Relay Server. If your computer is configured for cellular wireless Internet, the computer may be running a helper application called NettGain from Flash Networks. This application makes changes to wireless connection data at the transport level to optimize transport speeds and then sends the data to a server. The server then rebuilds the TCP transport layer for the data and sends the data out to the Internet. The server may also try to optimize at the application layer. The NettGain application may prevent Groove from communicating with servers that are running Groove Relay Server. This probably happens when Groove data is encapsulated in HTTP connections, and the NettGain application tries to optimize those connections at the application layer. Because the Groove data is not standard HTTP data, these changes may not be appropriate. In this situation, awareness notifications, messages, and workspace communications that are sent or received through the Relay Server server fail. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, disable the NettGain
application. MORE INFORMATION
