How to obtain Windows Rights Management Services with Service Pack 2
On This PageINTRODUCTION This article describes the new features that are included
in Microsoft Windows Rights Management Services with Service Pack 2 (RMS with
SP2). The article also provides links that you can use to obtain the RMS client
software. MORE INFORMATION RMS for the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 family of
operating systems helps safeguard digital content. Examples of digital content
include sensitive Web content, documents, and e-mail. Users can define who can
open, read, modify, or redistribute the content. Also, organizations can create
rights policy templates that enforce policies. Users can apply these policies
to content. New featuresRMS with SP2 provides support for the following features.Native support for Microsoft SQL Server 2005In previous releases of RMS, a workaround was required to use RMS with SQL Server 2005. In RMS with SP2, this issue has been fixed.Support for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007The Office SharePoint Server 2007 document library automatically applies RMS permissions to documents based on the Office SharePoint Server 2007 rights when they are downloaded. This is achieved by installing the RMS with SP2 client on the Office SharePoint Server 2007 server. We do not recommend that you install RMS with SP2 server and Office SharePoint Server 2007 on the same computer.Increased security on messages to the logging databaseIn this release, all Message Queuing messages from the RMS servers to the RMS logging database are digitally signed.Larger server batching sizesIn this release, it is now possible for an RMS-enabled application to retrieve multiple-use licenses for different user accounts from a single license request to the RMS server. This increases performance by reducing the overhead of multiple license requests for the same piece of rights-protected content.Enhanced group expansion across forestsIn this release, RMS group expansion across forests is accomplished by using a SOAP request to a new ASP.NET Web service that is running on the RMS server.
