Microsoft has released an update for Microsoft Word 2002. This article contains information about how to obtain the update. Additionally, this article describes the issues that you may encounter after the update is installed and how to determine whether the update is installed.
This update for Microsoft Word 2002 provides the framework for a compatibility pack to open and to save files by using the Open XML file format that is new to the 2007 Microsoft Office system.

After you install update 917347, RTF documents that are created from other RTF editors may open in Word. However, these documents may be missing inserted graphics.
Note Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem. We are currently investigating it.
You may be able to resolve the missing graphics problem on a system that was not updated with update 917347. To do this, follow these steps:
