SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

You log on to Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 by using Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003. You then open or create an enterprise project. You specify the time unit for work in the Work is entered in box on the Schedule tab of the Options dialog box. However, when you view the project in Resource Usage view, you find that the resource summary information is displayed by using a time unit other than the time unit that you specified.

For example, you specify the time unit in the Work is entered in box as Minutes, Days, Weeks, or Months. However, resource summary information in Resource Usage view is displayed in hours.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because resource summary information in an enterprise project is displayed by using the time unit for work that is set as the default time unit. By default, the time unit for work is set to Hours.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, set the time unit that you specify in the Work is entered in box as the default time unit for work, and then open your project. To do this, follow these steps:
1.Log on to Project Server 2003 by using Project Professional 2003.
2.On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Schedule tab.
3.In the Work is entered in box under Scheduling options for ProjectName, click the time unit that you want to use for work.
4.Click Set as Default, and then click OK.
5.Open your project.

MORE INFORMATION

When you open an enterprise project, a hidden enterprise resource pool project is also opened. The hidden enterprise resource pool project is used for all enterprise projects that you open when you log on to Project Server 2003.

The settings that the hidden enterprise resource pool project uses are based on the default settings in Project Professional 2003. Therefore, if the default time unit for work is set to Hours in Project Professional 2003, the hidden enterprise resource pool project uses Hours as the time unit for work.
