SYMPTOMS

When you type the first four characters of an AutoText entry in Microsoft Office Word 2007, the full text of the AutoText entry does not appear in a ScreenTip. This behavior occurs even if the AutoComplete feature is turned on.

CAUSE

The behavior occurs because the AutoText functionality has changed in Word 2007.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods:
  • Type the first few characters of the AutoText entry, and then press F3.
  • Type the first few characters of the AutoText entry, and then use the AutoCorrect feature to replace the characters with the full entry.

Note You cannot link an AutoCorrect entry to an AutoText entry.
  • Insert the AutoText entry by using Building Block Organizer. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. On the Insert tab, click Quick Parts in the Text group.
    2. Click Building Block Organizer.

The AutoText entries are listed under Building blocks.
    3. Click the entry under Building blocks, and then click Insert.
