One of the lights on the Ring of Light on the front of your Xbox 360 console flashes red, you receive error code E67, or E68, or E69, and you receive a system error message: “Contact Xbox Customer Support"

INTRODUCTION

This article describes a problem in which one of the lights on the front of your Xbox 360 console flashes red. Also, you receive error code E67, E68, or E69. This article describes steps that you can try to resolve the problem.

SYMPTOMS

The lower-right quadrant of the Ring of Light flash red on the front of your Xbox 360 console. You also receive one of the following error message in multiple languages on your television screen or your monitor:
Error message 1
E67. System Error. Contact Xbox Customer Support.
Error message 2
E68. System Error. Contact Xbox Customer Support.
Error message 3
E69. System Error. Contact Xbox Customer Support.
Note The error codes appear in the center of a black screen.

The following indicator flashes repeatedly on and off on the front panel of your Xbox 360 console:

If one red light is flashing, and if you see a different error message or code than the code or message that is described in this section, or if you don’t receive an error message or code, your console may be experiencing a different issue. If this is the case, see the "References/links" section.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when your Xbox 360 Hard Drive experiences a hardware failure.

THINGS TO TRY

Try the following steps to resolve the problem:
  1. Turn off your Xbox 360 console.
  2. Remove the Hard Drive. For more information about how to attach or remove the Xbox 360 Hard Drive, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

  3. Reattach the Hard Drive.
  4. Turn on your Xbox 360 console.
If you continue to experience this problem, obtain the latest update for your Xbox 360 console. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Turn off your Xbox 360 console.
  2. Detach the Hard Drive.
  3. Connect the console to Xbox LIVE. For more information visit http://www.xbox.com/live/ (http://www.xbox.com/live/) .
Notes
  • To obtain an automatic update without your Xbox 360 Hard Drive attached, you must have an Xbox 360 Memory Unit or an Xbox 360 that has built-in memory.
  • If you cannot connect to Xbox LIVE, running a recent game causes an automatic update to be installed.
  • You can also obtain the latest Xbox 360 system software from the following Xbox Support Web site:

If applying the latest automatic update does not resolve the problem, please contact Xbox Customer Service. If the Customer Service agent cannot help you resolve the issue, you may have to replace the Hard Drive. Discuss your replacement options with the agent.
