FIX: SQL Server 2005 performance may be slower than SQL Server 2000 performance when you use an API server cursor

When you use an API server cursor to perform a relative update, SQL Server 2005 performance may be slower than Microsoft SQL Server 2000 performance. This problem occurs when the API server cursor uses the pessimistic concurrency option.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites

• The original release version of the SQL Server 2005-based hotfix requires the original release version of SQL Server 2005.
• The SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based hotfix requires SQL Server 2005 SP1.
