FIX: The Korn shell (ksh) or the tcsh shell may unexpectedly exit when you run a script in Windows Services for UNIX 3.5 on a computer that uses symmetric multiprocessing

Consider the following scenario.

• You run Microsoft Windows Services for UNIX 3.5 on a computer that uses symmetric multiprocessing (SMP).
• You run a script in the Korn shell (ksh) or in the tcsh shell.
• A script makes a fork system call.

In this scenario, core dump files may be generated, and the shell may unexpectedly exit (crash).

This problem occurs when the process receives a signal when the process is in the fork system call.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

You must have Windows Services for UNIX 3.5 installed to apply this hotfix.

You must restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.
