Page 1-38: Answer to Question 1 in Lesson Review incorrect

On page 1-38, the answer to Question 1 in the Lesson Review reads:

"NWLink and TCP/IP"

It should read:

"IPX/SPX and TCP/IP"

Page 2-16: "100000000" should be "10000000"

On page 2-16, Table 2-4 includes an incorrect binary value for 128.

Change:
"100000000"

To:
"10000000"

Page 2-21: Incorrect information regarding the number of computers in a subnet

On page 2-21, the last sentence of the third paragraph of the "Host Capacity for Networks with w.x.y.z Subnet Masks" section reads:

"So, a network with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.192 can accommodate 30 computers."

It should read:

"So, a network with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.192 can accommodate 62 computers."

Page 2-47: Too many 0's in subnets

On page 2-47, in Figure 2-9 and Table 2-8 the subnet addresses incorrectly contain five octets. The additional 0 should be removed from each address.

From Figure 2-9 change:

On page 2-55, the diagram for Question 3 shows the outside interface for the Router/Firewall as having an IP that reads:

It should read:

Page 2-66: Number of available subnets incorrect

On page 2-66, in Lesson 3, Practice, Exercise 2 answer block, the last line reads:

"208.147.66.0/25 255.255.255.248 8 6"

It should read:

"208.147.66.0/25 255.255.255.248 16 6"

Page 2-67: Result of division operation formula incorrect

On page 2-67, in the Lesson 3, Practice, Exercise 4 box, the 6th line down reads:

"255.255.255.240 192.168.10.18 18/(256-240)=18/16=1 192.168.10.15 15/18=0 NO"

It should read:

"255.255.255.240 192.168.10.18 18/(256-240)=18/16=1 192.168.10.15 15/16=0 NO"

Page 2-68: Result of division operation formula incorrect

On page 2-68, in the continuation of the Lesson 3, Practice, Exercise 4 answer box, the first line reads:

"/29 172.16.100.248 248/(256-248)=248/8=32 172.16.100.252 252/8=32 YES"

It should read:

"/29 172.16.100.248 248/(256-248)=248/8=31 172.16.100.252 252/8=31 YES"

Page 2-72: Router/Firewall outside interface IP incorrect

On page 2-72, the diagram for Question 3 shows the outside interface for the Router/Firewall as having an IP that reads:

"131.107.8.1/24"

It should read:

"131.107.8.1/17"

Page 4-39: Incorrect reverse lookup domain format referenced

On page 4-39, the reverse lookup domain address in the first sentence of the second Note needs to be corrected.

Change:
"In this example, the 1 represents the name assigned to the host within the 172.16.48.in-addr.arpa domain."

To:
"In this example, the 1 represents the name assigned to the host within the 48.16.172.in-addr.arpa domain."

Page 4-46: "" should be "."

On page 4-46, Question 4 of the Lesson Review is missing a single dot between the quotation marks to signify the root domain.

Change:
"4. On a new DNS server, you create a zone “” and then create subdomains from that root domain. Which function will the new server be able or unable to perform?"

To:
"4. On a new DNS server, you create a zone “.” and then create subdomains from that root domain. Which function will the new server be able or unable to perform?"

Page 4-55: Incorrect Figure referenced

On page 4-55, the third sentence of the first paragraph contains an incorrect reference to Figure 4-15.

Change:
"For example, if the suffixes appearing in the search list in Figure 4-15 are configured and you submit the unqualified, single-label query "coffee", the DNS Client service first queries for coffee.lucernepublishing.com and then for coffee.eu.lucernepublishing.com."

To:

Page 4-65: .AllZones should be ..AllZones

On page 4-65, in step 9 there is a period missing in the command syntax.

Change:
"dnscmd . /Config .AllZones /AllowUpdate 1"

To:
"dnscmd . /Config ..AllZones /AllowUpdate 1"

Page 4-69: Incorrect answer for question 2 of the Lesson 1 Review

On page 4-69, the correct answer to question 2 of Lesson 1 Review reads:

"b"

It should read:

"b, d"

Page 5-29: "Manual creation of A record needed" should be "Dynamic update"

On page 5-29, the top diagram on the page is referring to a Dynamic update, the caption does not represent that topic.

Change:
"Manual creation of A record needed"

To:
"Dynamic update"

Page 6-4: 207.46.123.2 should be 207.46.138.20

On page 6-4, the last sentence in the second paragraph on the page contains an incorrect DNS address.

Change:
"For example, the following command executed at the command prompt queries the DNS server at 207.46.123.2 for the name www.microsoft.com:"

To:
"For example, the following command executed at the command prompt queries the DNS server at 207.46.138.20 for the name www.microsoft.com:"

Page 6-4: 207.46.230.220 should be 207.46.249.222

On page 6-4, the third paragraph down contains an incorrect address.

Change:
"You can also use Nslookup to resolve IP addresses to host names. For example, the following command executed at the command prompt returns the FQDN associated with the address 207.46.230.220, as shown in this output:"

To:

Page 6-10: Information regarding restricting types events of DNS logs is incorrect

On page 6-10, the 2nd and 3rd sentence of the first paragraph contains inaccuracies regarding the DNS Event log.

Change:
"However, you can restrict the type of events written to the log either through the Event Logging tab of the DNS server properties dialog box or through the properties dialog box of the DNS Events log itself. The DNS Events Properties dialog box allows greater management control and filtering features."

To:
"You can restrict the type of events written to the log through the Event Logging tab of the DNS Server properties dialog box. You can also filter the view of DNS events using the DNS Events Properties dialog box."

Page 6-10: "written to" should be "shown in"

On page 6-10, the sentence under Figure 6-4 incorrectly states that DNS Events are written to a log.

Change:
"The Filter tab, shown in Figure 6-5, allows you to restrict events written to the DNS Events log by event type, event source, event ID, date, and other parameters."

To:
"The Filter tab, shown in Figure 6-5, allows you to restrict events shown in the DNS Events log by event type, event source, event ID, date, and other parameters."

Page 6-11: Caption for Figure 6-5 is incorrect

On page 6-11, the caption for Figure 6-5 incorrectly states that the picture is for filtering DNS event logging.

Change:
"Figure 6-5 Filtering DNS event logging"

To:
"Figure 6-5 Filtering the DNS event log view"

Page 6-19: Question 4 needs additional information regarding DNS Event logs

On page 6-19, Question 4 needs additional information regarding DNS Event logs.

Change:
"4. What are two ways that you can limit the DNS Events log to record only errors and warnings?"

To:
"What is one way that you can limit the recorded events, and one way that you can change the view of the DNS event log?"

Page 6-35: Question 4 needs additional information regarding DNS Event logs

On page 6-35, Question 4 needs additional information regarding DNS Event logs.

Change:
"4. What are two ways that you can limit the DNS Events log to record only errors and warnings?"

To:

Page 7-23: "DCHP" should be "DHCP"

On page 7-23, the first headline under the box in the middle of the page misspells DHCP.

Page 7-53: Last sentence on page should be removed

On page 7-53, the last sentence on the page does not relate to Question 4 and should be removed.

Remove the following sentence:
"For the same reason, in a DNS zone that accepts both nonsecure and secure updates, hosting a DHCP server on a domain controller is never secure."

Page 9-5: "domain local controller" should be "domain controller"

On page 9-5, the last sentence on the page incorrectly refers to a domain controller as a domain local controller.

Change:
"If the server is already a domain local controller, it will be automatically added to this security group."

To:
"If the server is already a domain controller, it will be automatically added to this security group."

Page 9-37: Input should be Inbound and Output should be Outbound

On page 9-37, there is an error in the first sentence of the third paragraph.

Change:
"The Input Filters button and Output Filters button refer to a feature called packet filtering."

To:
"The Inbound Filters button and Outbound Filters button refer to a feature called packet filtering."

Page 11-52: Figures 11-22 and 11-23 are incorrect

On page 11-52, Figure 11-22 incorrectly displays a screenshot of IP Security Policies and Figure 11-23 incorrectly displays a screenshot of IP Security Monitor. Both of these figures should be displaying screenshots of the Security Event log and as such they should be disregarded.

Page 13-11: Incorrect subnets given in answers to question 2

On page 13-11, answers D, E and F of question 2 read:

"D. 199.205.15.96/26
E. 199.205.15.8/27
F. 199.205.15.40/28"

They should read:

"D. 199.205.15.96/27
E. 199.205.15.8/28
F. 199.205.15.40/29"

Page 13-11: 255.255.255.128 should be 255.255.248.0

On page 13-11 the Subnet mask given in answer B to question 3 is incorrect.

Change:
"Subnet mask: 255.255.255.128"

To:
"Subnet mask: 255.255.248.0"

Page 13-16: Explanation of Answer C is incorrect

On page 13-16, the first Answer C on the page contains an incorrect explanation.

Change:
"C. Correct: The value in the fourth octet must be a power of 2, for example, 128, 64, 32, and so on. This network is not valid."

To:
"C. Correct: This network is not valid."

Page 15-32: C should be A, C

On page 15-32, the correct answer to question 4 is missing an answer. Also, the explanation for answer A is incorrect.

Change:
"4. Correct Answers: C
A. Incorrect: This snap-in can display statistics. It cannot, however, export them."

To:
"4. Correct Answers: A, C
A. Correct: This snap-in can display statistics and export them."
