FIX: You may receive an error message when you run Database Engine Tuning Advisor by using the dta command-prompt utility in SQL Server 2005

When you run Database Engine Tuning Advisor (Dta.exe) by using the dta command-prompt utility in Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Database Engine Tuning Advisor may fail. When this problem occurs, you may receive the following error message: Note In this error message, the word ".ovement" is a misspelling for the word "movement."

This problem occurs if the following message string is formatted by using an incorrect parameter number:Database Engine Tuning Advisor uses this formatted string to display the message that states the progress of the tuning process.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Hotfix file information

This hotfix may not contain all the files that you must have to fully update a product to the latest build. This hotfix contains only the files that you must have to correct the issues that are listed in this article.

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

To work around this problem, use the graphical user interface (GUI) version of Database Engine Tuning Advisor. You can run the GUI version of Database Engine Tuning Advisor on the Tools menu in SQL Server Management Studio.
