SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Operator console closes unexpectedly. Then, you receive the following error message:
Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.
Additionally, you may receive the following error message:
Could not instantiate ActiveX control '9442f918-34d5-4c63-be91-d8ad5841d646' because the current thread is not in a single-threaded apartment.
Note If you generate a dump file, this information also appears in the generated dump file.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Hotfix installation information

You must install this hotfix on each computer that is running the MOM 2005 SP1 Operator console. To install this hotfix, follow these steps:
  1. Copy the MOM2005-SP1-KB918601-X86-ENU.MSI file to a folder on the local computer or to a network share.
  2. Use Windows Explorer or a command prompt to run the MOM2005-SP1-KB918601-X86-ENU.MSI file on the local computer.
